2006 AAHP Technician Representative Named

The place to be on Friday of the AAHP Fall Seminar was the Technician Town Hall Meeting. Among the many items discussed, a new technician representative was elected. Patricia Wiley, office automation assistant at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System, was elected for the 2006 term.

Patricia is a certified pharmacy technician working at the Central Arkansas Veterans hospital in the pharmacy office. Patricia has agreed to take on the challenge of keeping AAHP technician members informed of the board’s actions and discussions relating to technicians. AAHP Membership May Require Additional Fees for Techs

For the past several years, technicians have been invited to join the Arkansas Association of Health-systems Pharmacists as tech members for a yearly fee of $10.00. However, techs were not allowed to join the Arkansas Pharmacists’ Association (APA). As explained by Jane Gault, at the Technician Town Hall Meeting, the technician members of AAHP may have to become members of APA just like the pharmacists. If this happens, the membership fee could be raised considerably.

The membership for pharmacists into AAHP requires their membership in APA. This came after hospital pharmacists decided to break away from the pharmacists’ association in order to concentrate on matters important to the health-system pharmacist. Because volunteers run AAHP, they still needed the support of APA. This is why the two organizations are still connected through membership.
